Luncheon with MS House Representative Stacey Hobgood-Wilkes

Safe Dormitories Association Board Members on Monday, June 23rd, had a luncheon meeting with Representative Stacey Hobgood-Wilkes at the home of President Nancy Barrett in Lexington, Mississippi. The main discussion was how to advance the agenda of keeping our Mississippi dormitories safe for all our Mississippi Public College and University Students.

"We're so busy these days that some things slip by us. Most people, including many parents, don't fully realize the regulations surrounding college dorm rooms when they send their children off to school. We do our best to keep our children safe in every aspect of life, so it's only natural to want, and expect, that same level of protection in their dormitory rooms. Critical safety concerns in our public university and college dormitories need to addressed.", said Mississippi Representative Stacey Hobgood-Wilkes.

Representative Hobgood-Wilkes authored Bill HB 1605 that sadly died in committee during the Mississippi Legislature 2025 Regular Session. This bill would have established the "Mississippi Safe Dorms Act". Readers can review more details about Bill HB 1605 in this article.

"The solution is very simple: Boys should NOT be allowed to enter the girls' dorm rooms - bedrooms - and vice versa! Girls' dormitories should be as safe as the sorority houses. Just read the Clery Act Reports to understand the destructive path we are on." said Nancy Barrett, President of Safe Dormitories Association.

The Safe Dormitories Association is an organization of Mississippi citizens who are deeply concerned that all of our state universities allow men students to spend long unsupervised hours in the women's dormitory rooms - bedrooms - and vice versa for the men's dormitory rooms.
