AAU Campus Climate Survey (2019)

Mary Sue Coleman, former President of the Association of American Universities wrote a letter in which she states, "One of the most vexing issues I had to deal with as a university president was protecting our students from sexual assault and misconduct. The leaders of America’s leading research universities bear the significant responsibility of providing the safest environment possible for hundreds of thousands of students in both undergraduate programs and graduate and professional schools. This is why I’m so proud that AAU has helped lead the conversation about fighting sexual assault and misconduct on campus."

ACLU - The Right to Safe Housing on College Campuses

The following segment was taken from the ACLU website. Document date September 22, 2010.

How do sexual assault, stalking, and dating and domestic violence jeopardize equal educational opportunity and student housing?

Sexual harassment, stalking, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence can have devastating effects on the ability of students to continue their education. Students often know the perpetrators of the violence or harassment against them and see them on a regular basis. In the case of sexual assault, for example, a staggering 80-90% of on-campus victims know their attackers.(1) About six times as many sexual assaults occur in on-campus residence halls than do off-campus.(2)
